Somello Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
Somello ("we", "us") is a mobile app that reads a restaurant's food menu and wine list from photos you take and suggests wine pairings, using only the wines on that list. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google (on Android), we receive your name and email address to create and identify your account. When you sign in with Apple (on iPhone), we receive your email address. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, that is the private relay address Apple generates for you. Authentication is handled by Supabase.
- Menu photos. Photos you capture of a food menu or wine list are sent to our processor (Anthropic) to extract the dishes and wines. We do not store these photos. They are used only to fulfill that request and are not retained on our servers afterward.
- Selections you send. The dishes and wines you choose, and any taste preferences you enter, are sent to generate pairings.
- Usage & subscription data. We keep counts of how many scans and pairings your account has used (to apply free-trial limits) and your subscription status, which is managed through RevenueCat and the store you subscribed on (Google Play or the Apple App Store).
- On-device data. Your taste profile and your saved pairing history are stored only on your device and are not uploaded to us.
How we use information
- To read menus and generate wine-pairing recommendations.
- To operate accounts and enforce free-trial limits and subscriptions.
- To maintain, secure, and improve the service.
How information is shared
We share information with service providers only as needed to run the app:
- Anthropic: processes menu photos and text to extract items and generate pairings.
- Supabase: account authentication and usage/subscription records.
- RevenueCat, Google Play, and the Apple App Store: subscription purchases and entitlements.
- Google and Apple: sign-in.
- Wine retailers (e.g. Vivino). If you tap "buy" on a wine, we open that retailer's site with the wine name. We may earn a commission from purchases made through those links.
We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention
Menu photos are not retained after a request is processed. Account and usage data are kept while your account is active. On-device data remains until you clear it in the app or uninstall.
Your choices
- Clear your saved pairing history in the app at any time.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us (below).
- Revoke Google access from your Google account settings, or stop using Sign in with Apple for Somello in your Apple Account settings (Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple).
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights over your personal information, including the right to access a copy of it, correct it, delete it, receive it in a portable format, or object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below; we will respond within the timeframe your local law requires. If you are in the European Union, United Kingdom, or another region with a data protection authority, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Children
Somello is intended only for adults of legal drinking age and is not directed to anyone under that age.
Security & international processing
We use reasonable measures to protect your information. Your information is processed in the United States and may be processed in other countries; where your local law requires safeguards for international transfers, we rely on the contractual protections in our agreements with our processors (such as standard contractual clauses).
Changes
We may update this policy; we will revise the "last updated" date above when we do.
